Out of the total 2,885 Dutch students who were attending English universities as of 2017/18, a proportion of 33% of them were located in the UK’s capital London, says Studying-in-UK.org.
Due to their firm global reputation and high-quality education, UK universities are a major attraction in the international market of higher education. According to the latest enrollment data, over than 458,000 international students are attending university in the UK.
Their global appealing and international outlook could not have missed the attention of ambitious Dutch students. Official statistics collected from 183 accredited higher education providers in the UK show that a total of 3,630 students from the Netherlands were attending university in the UK as of 2017/18.
By the academic level, most of them were pursuing postgraduate degrees (1,955 postgraduate students versus 1,675 undergraduate students).
Further on, statistics revealed that London universities were the most popular choice among Dutch students. Statistically, 960 students in London weighted for a proportion of 33% of all Dutch students enrolled in English universities.
Thus, it meant that the number of Dutch students in London exceeded the number of Dutch students in other UK’s constituent states and regions. Last year there were 2,885 Dutch students in England, 585 in Scotland, 140 in Wales and 15 Northern Ireland.
London boasts several outstanding universities with some of them consistently making into the world’s top ten universities. But which London universities do Dutch students prefer the most?
According to official enrollment data, the University College London counted 165 Dutch students more than other universities in this region. London School of Economics and Political Sciences (90), Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine (70) and University of the Arts London (55) also claimed a relatively high number of students coming to the Netherlands.
